Frequently Asked Questions

Why do you use a computer system for consigning?

Due to the overwhelming response from our consignors and shoppers, we have reached an exciting milestone in the history of our sale.  Our sale has grossed over $25,000 for the last 2 years allowing us to donate over $10,000 per year to missions, while helping young families transition through their children’s items.  These amazing numbers have led us to automate our system in the past.  Many of our consignors have expressed their appreciation for this system and we were very pleased with the ease of use.  However, once again, our growth has brought forth some issues.  We researched the best way to solve our problems of controlling such a large inventory without the needed numbers of volunteers.  This led us to new online software.  This wonderful software will allow the GUMW Children’s Consignment Sale to run online from beginning to end.  You will be able to register, volunteer, enter inventory, check sales, and get information from the same site.  We are very excited about this new software and we hope you will be too.  We understand that change is difficult, but we have researched this new tool and feel that it is very user friendly and will assist us in making this sale its best.  Thank you for your continued support of the GUMW Children’s Consignment Sale.

Where does the money go?

GUMW Children’s Consignment Sale consignors receive 70% of their sales total.  The remaining 30% goes to GUMW Missions.  Our women’s groups serve the greater Memphis area through many charities including inner city schools, food banks, and service organizations.  To learn more about GUMW, click here.  All of our donations after the sale, go to GUMW specified charities.

I just want to shop. When can I come in and shop if I don't consign?

Public shopping dates are:
Friday, August 23, 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. (FULL PRICE SALE)
Friday, August 23, 5 – 8 p.m. (HALF PRICE SALE)
Saturday, August 24, 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. (HALF PRICE SALE)

How can I shop early?

You can consign and shop Thursday, August 22, 6:30-8:00 p.m.
You can volunteer to help and shop Thursday, August 22 from either 6:00-8:00 p.m. (4+ hour volunteer) or 5:30-8:00 p.m. (8+ hour volunteer). To volunteer click one of these links:

How do I price my items?

Items should be priced at 1/4-1/3 of the retail cost.
To get more for your items, consider grouping. Hang outfits together, pack similar DVDs as a lot, sell Barbie and Ken as a set, package headbands and bows…
Consider what you would pay at a consignment shop, not at a retail store.

Can I transfer inventory between sales?

Yes! We have partnered with our sister church, Emmanuel United Methodist in East Memphis. Consignors now have the option to transfer inventory between the Emmanuel Children’s Clothing Sale and GUMW Children’s Consignment Sale. Check Emmanuel’s website for information on their sale dates. If you need help with the inventory transfer feature, click here for a step-by-step guide. With us working together as an affiliated sale, all of our consignors benefit — along with us helping more missions!

I'd like to donate my items to the sale instead of consigning. How does that work?

We love donations! You can coordinate with us in advance of the sale to donate your gently used items. We will price and tag each item, with 100% of the sale price going to local missions! You receive an early consignor shopping pass in return, along with a thank you letter as your receipt for tax purposes. Please be sure your donated items have an approximate value of more than $40. Email for more info.

I don't have anything to consign, but I'd like to volunteer. What do I do?

Please click here to sign up as a non-consigning worker and then select your shift(s). We always need help, and volunteers who work for at least 4 hours get to shop early at the pre-sale on Thursday. Volunteer for 8 hours more, and shop even earlier!

How do I get back to the page where I enter my items?

  • There is a 200 item limit.
  • Discount Store Items – price any item from a discount store at a maximum of $3.  Discount stores include (but are not limited to) Target, Walmart, Kohls, KMart, and others.
  • Secure shoes to each other with ribbon or in ziplock bag.  Limit of 5 pair of perfect condition shoes per consignor.

Tags should be either printed on card stock or printed on regular paper and then taped to an index card. Please use safety pins to tag your items. NO tagging guns or straight pins!

Just because you participated in a previous sale, does not mean you are registered for this sale.  You must register online and fill out the online inventory in order to participate in our sale.  The website will instruct you and let you know what is next.  Do not wait until the last minute to get started.  If you have not participated in recent sales, our sale may have changed you last consigned, so you might need a minute to read some instructions.
