When you hear “Giving,” your mind might quickly jump to the most common form of church donation: financial. Tithing is no doubt an important and sustaining part of the church, but it’s not the only way you can give back. In addition to money, you can donate your time and your unique talents. Volunteering, Stewardship, Endowments — it’s all a part of giving at GUMC.
Now you are Christ’s body, and individually parts of it. Some people God has designated in the church to be, first, apostles; second, prophets; third, teachers; then, mighty deeds; then, gifts of healing, assistance, administration, and varieties of tongues. 1 CORINTHIANS 12:27-28
The most common form of giving is a check. Checks can be made out to Germantown United Methodist Church and mailed to our address:

You may also opt for electronic payment using your bank’s only bill pay system. The most convenient approach, however, is to request that the church auto-draft your contribution on a monthly basis. If you would like us to help you set this up, email .
OTHER WAYS TO GIVE
Stocks The stock market is up, no, wait, it’s down. Or maybe it’s doing something else. No one knows if or when a downturn in the market might occur. One way to avoid the capital gains taxes that might come by selling stock is to gift the stock to the church. The tax savings may be significant. Talk to your tax planner or financial consultant. Contact to facilitate this.
Estate Planning Fewer than half of all American adults have a will. If we are serious about and committed to our church while we are alive, then providing for our church when we are gone makes sense, too. A bequest of property, financial instruments, savings, accounts, and other resources may be of benefit to your estate, allowing more of what you have acquired in this life to continue the work of the church and leave more for your loved ones as well. Talk to your tax planner or financial consultant.
Tithing is mentioned no less than 20 times in the Bible, and as you may know, it refers to giving one tenth of one’s earnings or income to the church.
Abram gives the first ever tithe to Melchizedek in Genesis 14:19-20 after defeating the armies of the four kings.
It’s important to remember that the tithe, as it was originally intended, is given in response to God’s blessings – not to invoke them.
Memorials and Honorariums Memorials and Honorariums are a great way to give to the church with a specific cause or ministry in mind. If you’re interested, email *protected email* to begin the process.

Stewardship 2018: Grow One Step
This year’s Stewardship theme was “Grow One Step.” Everyone knows that our church has great worship services, beautiful facilities, all types of missions, a fantastic staff, and so much more. To fund all this, we need every member to make a pledge.
