Spring is here and yards are being beautified all around town. Our church has participated in over 25 home sponsorships through Habitat for Humanity, Mission Possible 3. Calling Adult SS Classes to join the 200 members of GUMC who are already signed up for MP3! In response to the city-wide ecumenical service held at Mississippi Boulevard Church in March and in keeping with Rick Kirchoff’s sermon “Living the Good News of Easter in a Bad News World,” the Missions Team of GUMC is inviting each adult Sunday School class to join in the next MP3 project. We wish to reconnect with our Habitat families, offering a “hand up” with spring clean up. The tasks could be planting flowers, clearing the yard, mending or building a fence, power washing the siding (Habitat will provide the power wash product). The desired outcome is for our church members to reconnect with our Habitat families, ensuring them of our continued support and sharing the love of Christ in a tangible way. GUMC members have responded to this mission call and reconnected with 8 Habitat families. GUMC has participated in building over 25 Habitat homes, so there should be a family for every adult class.
Here is how to respond:
• Select a family: tell us if you already have a connection to one of the families OR choose from a list of homeowners.
• Call or visit the Habitat family to discuss their needs and potential dates to work with them.
• Select the date that works best for your class and confirm with the homeowner. (Aim to have this accomplished by early June).
• Enjoy reconnecting with and supporting a Habitat homeowner.
• Take pictures to share in The Tidings.
• Invite the family to the church-wide picnic June 1.
