If it’s time for you to get more plugged into the life of the church, this is a great opportunity! Come and see what groups are available and find out a little about the missions with which they are involved, the studies in which they are engaged, and the relationships they have to offer! All classes are open and eager to have visitors, and all classes hope that you will find the small group that is home for you. So, please try an Adult Sunday School class . . . and if it’s not what you need right now in your life, try another!
Also at the Sunday School Celebration we will have a Cokesbury representative with resources that might be of interest to you, individually, or your small group or Sunday School Class. We encourage you to come and browse!
Orientation for parents and students is scheduled for August 22 at 6 p.m. in the Mike Wilson Fellowship Hall. Classes are held each Sunday evening from August-April. The confirmation program includes field trips to a synagogue and a Catholic church, a fall and winter retreat, and evenings of fun-filled skits, games, and interactive learning. We will accept all Fall/Winter clothing for boys and girls ages Newborn thru size 12. (this is size 12 girls/boys, NOT size 12 juniors.)
Clothing must be in like new condition, no stains, tears, or missing buttons. Clothing must be of current style and not showing wear. We reserve the right to refuse clothing or any other merchandise upon check in.
Other items we will accept: baby items and equipment (strollers, high chairs, swings, walkers, etc.), bikes, toys, shoes (limit 5), Halloween costumes, Christmas outfits, cribs, nursery and kid’s room furniture.
Items we will not accept: bedding, stuffed animals, Easter clothing, Summer clothing (shorts, short sleeves, swimwear), more than 5 pair of shoes. We reserve the right to decline any item from our sale for any reason. This is to be determined by sale staff. Reasons for declining items include but are not limited to stains, tears, missing parts, dated clothing, dirt, and lack of space for the item. ]]>

How do I price my items?
Items should be priced at 1/4-1/3 of the retail cost.
To get more for your items, consider grouping. Hang outfits together, pack similar DVDs as a lot, sell Barbie and Ken as a set, package headbands and bows…
Consider what you would pay at a consignment shop, not at a retail store.
I do not have time to participate, what are my options?
You can donate all your items to us.
You can continue to collect your items for sale and participate in the Spring or next Fall. Be sure to stop by and shop with us.
I am having trouble with my excel file. Is there help available?
First, check to be sure you have excel.
Have you saved your file to your computer?
with your problems and we will get back with you as soon as possible.

I do not have excel, can I still participate?
Due to the increasing size of our sale, we have automated our consignment and made it as easy as possible for you.
If you do not have excel or a read/write compatible program, you will need to contact us for assistance. We can help you if you contact us in advance. Please do not wait until the last week before the sale to find out if you will be able to use our file. We will be very busy that week and will be unable to assist. Register early. When we send you the file, open it right away to be sure your computer will read it.
Where is the sale?
Our sale is located at the Owings Life Enrichment Center across the street from our main church campus.

Be sure to package all items securely. Use ziplock bags for small parts and seal the top with packing tape. Kids will attend our sale and they love to open packages.
Secure shoes to each other with ribbon or in ziplock bag.
Take the time to wash and iron clothing. All clothing sells better when well laundered.
Use appropriately sized hangers. Pin pants to the top angled sides of a regular hanger if you do not have clip hangers. If you are selling an outfit, pin the pants to the back of the shirt so they are well seen. The better the presentation, the more likely you are to sell the item.

You can’t wait to see them break into a smile when they see you. If one is sick you worry. If one is struggling you search for ways to help. Maybe one invites you to a school event—you are so excited—and you meet his grandmother. You find you have something in common: a kid you both love.
Considering joining our partnership with Caldwell-Guthrie Elementary School. We’ll teach you how to tutor. You’ll learn to set boundaries, teach reading and math basics, and work with children.
It is not necessarily to commit to a weekly tutoring slot. Get trained and join the substitute list. That way when a regular tutor is sick or on vacation his/her students always have a tutor!

To honor the memory of Edwin Smith, who lost his life suddenly in January of 2010 to viral cardio-myopathy. Mr. Smith was an avid runner and passionate supporter of GUMC Student Ministries.

As you are aware, Phase 1 of The McVay Gardens Columbarium is now virtually complete. Situated near the site of the original Germantown Methodist Episcopal Church established in 1840, the Columbarium will enhance the historical Germantown Cemetery which served the Germantown community for 125 years.
The McVay Gardens Columbarium is a place for the inurnment of the cremated remains of family and loved ones. As such, it provides for an important spiritual component in the lives of Germantown United
Methodist Church families while perpetuating the historical legacy of the church in the Germantown community.
We are now planning a Dedication Service to occur later this fall on September 19. We invite additional enrollments in the columbarium. Please note also that, as a McVay Gardens Columbarium enrollee, you may memorialize a spouse or loved one interred or inurned at another location with a Memorial Plaque. This plaque can be permanently installed adjacent to our columbarium niche locations to remember and memorialize those members and loved ones not at our location.
