Funerals

A Guide to Funerals at Germantown UMC

Many people are now choosing to have visitation and a memorial service at their home church.  If that is what you would desire for your loved one, there are some simple steps to take.

Call and notify the church about the death and an available minister will contact you. At that time, he/she will discuss with you which minister you might like to have officiate the service and what you specifically would like to have at the church. The date and time of services will need to be coordinated with scheduled church activities. Then the minister of your choice, if available, will contact you to discuss the specifics of a memorial service.

In addition, a member of the Funeral Guild will contact you about options for locations of the visitation and the service, and whether or not you desire a reception for your guests or a light meal for your family. She will be with you throughout the funeral events here at the church, and help you with the disposition of vases and baskets of flowers. She will arrange for ushers, give you a copy of a booklet about having a funeral at GUMC and be available to answer any questions you might have about floral arrangements, pictures, a recording of the service, and serve as a hostess to you and your guests during the events here at GUMC.

The Funeral Guild is a volunteer service by members of the congregation and desires to assist you during this time of loss.  If you would like be a part of this ministry, please contact Beverly Rhoads, Elder Care Health Ministry at 754-7216, ext. 107 or (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
