How to Join
Becoming a member of Germantown United Methodist Church
We rejoice that you have found Germantown United Methodist Church to be a place where you feel nurtured and challenged to grow as a disciple of Christ. Our membership process intentionally allows you both to grow and to get to know us better. It also allows us to welcome you and come to know you as a part of the GUMC family.
If you are joining by Profession of Faith or Reaffirmation of Faith, meaning that you are not currently a member of any other church, we look forward to you attending our class on The Basics of the Christian Faith. After completing The Basics of the Christian Faith class, you will have a class on Basic Methodist Beliefs and then be invited to stay for a Coffee with the Pastors.
If you are joining by Transfer of Membership from another denomination, we look forward to you attending our class on Basic Methodist Beliefs and to stay for a Coffee with the Pastors.
If you are joining by Transfer of Membership from another United Methodist congregation, we look forward to you attending a Coffee with the Pastors prior to joining.
Coffee with the Pastors is an opportunity for you to meet our pastors personally, to hear the story of Germantown UMC, and to understand the vows of membership and the promises you are making to Christ through the Church.
After completing Coffee with the Pastors, new members schedule a Sunday that is convenient for them to take the vows of membership in worship.
Each course is offered once a month on a Sunday evening. Please call 754-7216 for more information on the next sessions.
Children under 12 who have not been through confirmation are considered preparatory members and encouraged to go through confirmation in the 6th grade. Students older than 6th grade that have not been confirmed are encouraged to attend the Christian beliefs class and the Methodism course with their parents, and meet with one of the pastors before joining with their families as full members.
