Congregational Care
Empowered by the Holy Spirit in healing, caring, and encouragement and sustained through prayers, the mission of Congregational Care is to provide timely and effective pastoral care to our sick, bereaved, and all in need through professional staff and lay volunteers.
Full and Refresher CPR/AED/ Training. Did you know that your church provides an Emergency Team in the Sanctuary every Sunday morning for your protection and safety? To be an Emergency Team member one needs to be certified in CPR and AED and know how to respond to severe weather and intrusion. One also agrees to serve as a first responder during his/her scheduled worship services. A Certified Instructor will offer two Full/Refresher CPR/AED Courses; one each on November 3 and November 10—with completion certificates. Non-team members wanting to gain or refresh CPR/AED knowledge will be asked to pay a discounted rate of $20 for the Full Course or $5 for the Refresher Course. Pre-registration is required for each session through Linda Terrell at lterrell@germantownumc.org no later than October 26.
The Vial of Life. The “Vial of Life” is a voluntary initiative for senior members of our congregation that allows one to keep critical personal/medical information—needed in an emergency situation—in a specific, professionally-recognized location in the home. The information, supplied by the participant, is documented and stores in the door shelf of the refrigerator. A decal on the front door of the residence (supplied) alerts an emergency responder to the presence of the information and the need to ask for its location. A magnet on the front door of the refrigerator (also supplied) reinforces the location for quick and easy retrieval. This program is a cooperative endeavor between the Elder Care Health Ministry and the Health and Wellness Ministry Team, funded by a grant from the Endowment Committee, and is being coordinated by Beverly Rhoads, Elder Care Health Care Ministry Coordinator. You may obtain your kit in the Fellowship Hall on October 21, and 28, or by contacting Beverly Rhoads at 753-6513 or brhoads@germantownumc.org.
