Sign-ups continue for Labor of Love – coming on Labor Day – Monday, September 4! Labor of Love is a community service day that brings together St. George’s Episcopal, Germantown United Methodist, New Bethel Baptist, Germantown Presbyterian, and Kingsway Christian churches; we will partner with MIFA and Memphis Feeds Initiative to offer members several ministry opportunities to serve neighbors in need: (1) filling bags for MIFA’s Emergency Services, (2) cleaning yards, (3) delivering meals and food boxes in selected areas, and (4) packaging ready-to-prepare meals. If you’re not sure what you would like to do, ask our mission ambassadors for more information about being a part of this amazing day of serving others in our community!
There are bins in the hall leading to the Fellowship Hall where you can drop off items for MIFA’s Emergency Services. The requested items include:
- Baby shampoo
- Baby lotion
- Petroleum jelly
- Baby bottles
- Small bottles of infant juice
Some of these items can be found in dollar stores. If you know others who are willing to donate small sample-sized items for this effort, those would be appreciated also.
On Labor Day, we will meet at St. George’s at 8:00 a.m. for a time of prayer and reflection, and our “sending forth.” From there, we will go on to deliver meals or food boxes, clean yards, or fill Emergency Services bags or package meals (at New Bethel). Those who are delivering meals or food boxes should complete MIFA’s Volunteer Application (available at the welcome desk) and return it to GUMC no later than Thursday, August 31!
We look forward to seeing you on Labor Day, as we go out to serve God’s people in a Labor of Love!
