The Weekend Food program addresses the problem of child food–insecurity, which is prevalent in many schools in Shelby County. In 2013 GUMC began a program to meet the needs of these children. Breakfast and lunch is provided by the school, however there may not be enough food at home for dinner to say nothing about the entire weekend. Every Friday during the school year The Weekend Food Program provides a child a box of food containing six child-friendly and nutritious meals for the weekend. Each box also contains an instructional page with a Bible verse letting the child know that Jesus loves them.
You can participate by sponsoring a child for $300 per year. Checks are payable to GUMC memo line Weekend Food.
