Youth & Kids Seasonal Events

Wednesday Night Programs
6:30-7:30 p.m.
Preschoolers-Kindergarten meet in the Hamilton Nursery. Grades 1-3 meet in the Children’s Education Wing. Our mid-week programs provide a variety of opportunities for children to experience Christian fellowship and develop a closer relationship with Christ. Third Grade Bible Presentation
As the foundation of our faith, the Bible is integral to all we do and believe. Each September, third graders are presented with personalized Bibles. They also enjoy a ­fun-filled retreat on this special weekend.

Fall Festival (October)
This fun family event is held annually as a Halloween alternative. Children are encouraged to come dressed in their favorite non-scary costumes, enjoy delicious treats, bounce in giant inflatables, and play carnival-style games including the ever-popular Treat Walk.

Advent Workshop (November)
In preparation for the Advent season, families are invited to attend this special event designed for children of all ages. Families can make their own Advent wreath and enjoy tasty treats. Children can express their creativity through a variety of Christmas crafts and ornaments to decorate. Our youth drama group will present the Christmas story. This is a wonderful way to prepare our hearts and family for the celebration of Jesus’ birth!

Milk and Muffins (December)
Families with young children are invited to attend this special event held in the Mike Wilson Fellowship Hall. Children hear the Christmas story, enjoy snacks, make crafts, and have the opportunity to visit with Santa. This is a great time for children to engage in the Christmas story while visiting with friends and creating family memories.

Easter Egg Hunt
Our annual Easter Egg Hunt is held the Saturday before Easter at GUMC’s McVay Gardens Park. This fun and festive event provides is a great opportunity for family and fellowship! In addition to the traditional egg hunt, children can enjoy a petting zoo, fun crafts, yummy snacks, and much more! The Easter Bunny makes an appearance as well. Parking is available at the Owings Life Enrichment Center.

Vacation Bible School (June/July)
VBS is an exciting week full of story, crafts, games, and much, much more! This is an opportunity for children to explore their faith while creating friendships with children, youth, and adults. Children who will be age 4 by September 30 through rising 6th graders are eligible to attend. Registration begins April 1 at Make VBS a summer tradition for you and your children!

Team Sports (seasonal)
Playing team sports is a wonderful way to build friendships, confidence, and a love for active fun. If your child is interested in team sports, please consult our opportunities offered through our Health and Recreation Ministry at the Owings Life Enrichment Center (OLEC).

Music Program
Sunday nights, 5-6 p.m.
Music enriches the worship experience and singing in a choir offers an opportunity for children to serve the church as they help lead worship. We have an incredible choir program for children ages 3 and up, leading worship 3-4 times a year and having seasonal concerts. All choirs meet in the children’s education wing. Children not yet in kindergarten must have a parent or chaperone accompany them to their rehearsals and will meet from 5-5:45 p.m.. (New this year is an adult Bible study available to parents while children are in choir rehearsal.)
