Germantown United Methodist Church Grants $22,000 to Aid Ukraine

The Germantown United Methodist Church (GUMC) Endowment Committee and Missions Committee have partnered together to provide $22,000 in support of humanitarian relief in Ukraine. The GUMC Endowment Committee approved a $20,000 grant request on May 12, 2022, and the GUMC Missions Committee will contribute $2,000 from its budget for a total of $22,000 in aid.

The funds will be donated to the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) International Disaster Response and Recovery, which is providing food, water, medicine, shelter and transportation to Ukrainians and other refugees fleeing Russian invaders inside their country and to those seeking refuge in neighboring countries.

Laura Meanwell, chair of GUMC’s Missions Committee, said, “This is a mission of support and mercy for the people of Ukraine, who are being mercilessly attacked, killed, and driven from their homes and homeland. We are so grateful to the Endowment Committee, our church leaders, and our congregation who made the grant possible, and we continue to pray for all Ukrainians and other persons impacted by this crisis.”

United Methodists and others wishing to provide humanitarian assistance to the Ukrainian people in the wake of the Russian invasion of their country may contribute to Advance #982450, UMCOR International Disaster Response and Recovery. This fund will provide direct assistance to those in Ukraine as well as assistance to Ukrainians fleeing to neighboring countries.
