2023 Advent/Christmas Schedule

Hanging of the Greens

Sunday, December 3 | 8:30 and 11:00 am | Sanctuary
Hanging of the Greens will take place during the traditional worship services on the First Sunday of Advent. This tradition reminds the church of the life and light brought to the world by Christ, for whose coming we prepare.

Advent Procession

Sunday, December 3 | 5:30 pm
This evening service will mark the beginning of Advent, taking place at Germantown United Methodist Church, Germantown Presbyterian Church, and St. George’s Episcopal Church. Beginning at GUMC, the service will process to our sister churches. Join us in this unique and beautiful service, featuring scripture, liturgy, music and fellowship, to begin the Advent season.

Houston High School Choirs Holiday Concert

Thursday, December 7 | 6:00 pm | Sanctuary
The Houston High School Choirs perform their holiday concert at Germantown UMC. Join us as we welcome in the Christmas Season with the sound of holiday music. Admission is $5/person.

Christmas Cookie Shoppe

Saturday, December 9 | 9:00 am – 12 Noon | Fellowship Hall
Sponsored by the United Women in Faith, this is a great opportunity to stock up on sweets for family and friends. A fellowship hall full of holiday cookies & desserts! Proceeds support mission projects of the Germantown United Women in Faith.

Journey to Bethlehem

Saturday, December 9 | 9:30 am – 11:00 am | Hamilton Nursery
Children travel through the nativity story from angels to manger, and from shepherds to magi. This special event helps create memories and understandings that last a lifetime. Registration is required. Click here to register.

Children’s Alternative Christmas Shop

Children can shop for creative, pre-wrapped gifts for family and friends. All gifts are fair-trade and cost $5 each. Cash, check, & Venmo are accepted.

Plum Pudding Children’s Christmas Music Concert

Join in this longstanding GUMC tradition with a festive reception afterward. Featuring the Alleluia Choir, Hosanna Choir, and Cherub Choir.

Community Carol Festival

Join us for sounds of the season featuring the Carol settings of composer Stephen Mager. Also featuring our Chancel Choir, Matins Handbell Choir, and guest instrumentalists Eva McPeters and Andrew Duvall, the former & future GUMC organists/pianists. 

Memphis Symphony Orchestra Presents Handel’s Messiah
