FAITH & REFLECTION
Meaning of Easter
Easter celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ, which happened three days after he died on the cross to atone for the sins of the world. It’s a time of true joy and hope. At Germantown UMC, we believe every person matters deeply to God. Our goal is to help you connect with a joy that’s grounded in the true message of Easter — life, hope, and forgiveness found in Jesus. Whether you’re searching for something to lift your spirits or simply want to experience the hope of Easter in community, we invite you to come, be inspired, and find lasting joy this Easter season.
What is the meaning of Good Friday?
Good Friday commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Calvary. It is observed during Holy Week as part of the Paschal Triduum. At Germantown UMC, we hold a Good Friday service on April 3 at St. George’s Episcopal Church at noon, followed by a light lunch.
What are some Easter Scriptures?
Key Easter scriptures include John 11:25 — “I am the resurrection and the life” — and Luke 24:6, “He is not here; he has risen!” Also Matthew 28:1–10, which recounts the discovery of the empty tomb, and 1 Corinthians 15:55 — “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?”
What is Palm Sunday?
Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week and commemorates Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. At Germantown UMC, we celebrate Palm Sunday on March 29 at 10:30 am, with children processing with palms and the Hosanna, Alleluia & Chancel Choirs singing.
