Rev. Linda Gabriel, GUMC’s Elder Care Minister, is the Germantown United Women in Faith’s February speaker. Linda grew up in Garden City, New York. As a child attending Garden City Community Church, she received the call into ministry. However, the adults told her, “little girls can’t be ministers.” At age 16, her pastor told her he could see God’s hand on her life, and he asked her if she had considered being a minister. She told him her calling had been dismissed by others in the church, so he said, “little girls can’t be ministers, but grown women can be.” Linda went on to Duke University where she received degrees in nursing and religion. After a brief stint in nursing, she received her Master’s in Divinity from the Duke Divinity School. Rev. Linda holds certifications in counseling from Columbia (NY), Harvard, Sloan Kettering, and the Jungian Institute in Chicago. Rev. Linda was ordained in 1983. Prior to coming to GUMC, she has served at many different churches in many different ministries, including Colonial Park UMC, Union Avenue UMC, and Emmanuel UMC. GUMC former Executive Pastor, Brad Gabriel, and Rev. Linda have been married 40 years. They have two sons, Matthew and Daniel, both married, and a granddaughter, Violet. Rev. Linda said, “I am grateful to God for this gift of life and all the wonderful people I’ve been blessed to know.”
